Community Talk: Ankle sprains in trail runners - managing your risk and response.
Join us for a free workshop on strength training for trail runners, with a special focus on ankle sprain recovery, neuromuscular control, and building confidence post-injury. Led by Lianne Burrell (Kinesiologist) and Carly Peterson at Shift Wellness (Physiotherapist), this session will explore key strategies to improve strength, stability, and resilience on the trails both pre and post injury. The event includes an educational discussion followed by some workshop time in the gym to ask questions and practice an exercise or two. If you've ever been slowed down by ankle sprain or fear of one - this workshop will give you the tools to move with strength and confidence.

8 WEEK SKI STRENGTH PROGRAM - OCT - NOV 2024
This ski/snowboard focused progressive strength series takes place over 8 weeks in preparation for the upcoming winter season. Each week will build on the last, with every effort made to prep you for the upcoming ski season. Meeting the same people each week with common goals is the best way to stay focused and accountable.Expect to work on building your base strength, functional single leg and core strength and plyometrics. Movements and exercises are selected specifically to help you excel and enjoy winter days outside skiing and snowboarding.
This program leads right up to Whistler opening day, beginning the week of October 1st and ending the week of November 20th.
This program is 1x a week, so that you can keep on mountain biking, hiking and strength training with this added addition to your routine! Or you can get more comfortable and learn the exercises to do again on your own.

This workshop is for anyone wanting to gain more confidence with a barbell. Join registered Kinesiologist and strength coach Lianne Burrell as she leads the group through the two-hour workshop designed for beginner to novice lifters. Expect a supportive environment focusing on the essential barbell lifts done in many of our Wild Life Gym classes.
You will learn proper bracing and joint warm-up techniques, rack setup, squat patterns, deadlift patterns, and gain familiarity with the landmine attachment. Step up to the barbell with more skill, knowledge and confidence. The darker winter months are a perfect time to work on strength training so you can bust out your strength gains on the trails come spring and summer. Expect lots of individual instruction and time for questions.
